Monthly City Council update
Fire Department Overview:
Staffing is at 45 active firefighters as of November 17, 2006; allocation is 45 PTEs. We have two
candidates for the position of 1 st Assistant chief and the election will be held on December 4th.
As of November 4, we were at 429 calls for the year, down 74 from 503 at the same time in 2005. We
had no structure fires since our last council update. We did assist the Carver County Sheriff s
Department in a search for the occupant of a partially submerged vehicle at the Lake Susan access. The
vehicle had been accidentally driven into the lake and the occupant returned later to retrieve the vehicle.
Fire Training:
In November we are refreshing our skills in auto extrication and fire behavior training. In December we
will be conducting medical station skills for medical training refresher requirements and ice rescue
training. During the first quarter of 2007 we will continue with medical skills refresher as all EMTs
(Emergency Medical Technicians) and First Responders will need to complete State required training.
Fire Marshal:
No fires to report on.
Fire Inspections:
An update on new construction - The EmersonIRosemount addition is finished. The Minger/Partech
building at 2471 Galpin Court is nearly finished. They are in the process of moving in. Other ongoing
projects include Abra Auto Body, Gateway Apartments, Lifetime Fitness Corporate Office, Town and

Country townhomes and condos, Waytek, the Chanhassen Water Treatment Plant, Eden Trace building
at 2431 Galpin Court and a number of small remodel jobs. Licensed in-home daycare inspections are
almost complete.
Fire Prevention:
Fire Prevention week and the open house for 2006 are now history. We are still visiting a number of
daycare centers and giving fire truck rides to school for kids who have won them or parents who bid on
the certificates at school silent auctions. We also had a number of firefighters in two fire trucks driving
around the city on Halloween handing out candy to the kids and hot apple cider to the parents. I believe
we went through three five-gallon pails of candy. Once again this was a huge success.
