Elected Official Travel Approval
BACKGROUND
In accordance with State law, the City of Chanhassen has a policy in place
governing elected official travel. Pursuant to this policy, all out-of-state travel by
City elected officials must be approved by the City Council.
The out-of-state travel requested for consideration is for attendance by Mayor
Tom Furlong to the 2006 Congress of Cities & Exposition, hosted by the National
League of Cities in Reno, Nevada. The dates of conference attendance are
December 6-8,2006. Todd Cierhardt will also attend.
The conference offers a variety of sessions designed to educate and inform local
government officials.. Workshops are being presented on relevant topics like
Transportation, Public Sa~ety Effectiveness, and pub~ic-Private Partnerships in
Recreation, Economic Development, and Environmental Resources.
This trip meets the following criteria established by the City's travel policy:
. '-The elected official will be receiving training on issues relevant to the city or
to his role as the Mayor;
. The elected official will be meeting and networking with other elected
officials from around the country to exchange ideas on topics of relevance to
the City or on the official roles of local elected officials.
The approximate cost of this trip is $1.200 (flight meals. registration fee. etc.).
The city has sufficient funding available in the budget to pay the cost of the trip.
RECOMMENDA TION
Staff recommends approval of this request. Approval of this item requires a
majority of Council approval.
