Finalize 2023 Media Calendar: The commission reviewed the calendar for 2023 and no changes were made. Jill made note that some commissioners are assigned topics after their terms expire, but commissioners said they would submit the posts prior to their terms ending. T he approved calendar is as follows. JAN: natural home cleaning, Kristin FEB: Appliances, Scott MAR: Home energy efficiency, Greg APR: Laundry, Leslie MAY: Energy efficient gardens, Scot JUN: Composting, Markus JULY: Sustainable travel/staycations, Kaisa AUG: Alternative energy sources, Markus SEPT: Clothing, Julia OCT: Home/Holiday waste, Kaisa NOV: Food waste, Leslie DEC: Gift giving ideas, Kristin Spring/Summer Connection Article: Julie offered to write the article focused on a sustainability topic. The article is due to Jill by 1/3/23. Winter Environmental Trivia Event: Kristin asked the commission to decide on the 5 categories for the event. After a discussion the commission settled on Sustainable Home, Sustainable Travel, Alternative Energy, Carver County Environmental Center and Chan-Happening as well as a Tiebreaker category. The following commissioners agreed to write 5 trivia question for the categories as listed: Leslie, Kaisa, Scot, Jill, and Kristin. Questions are due to Kristin by 1/9/23. Updates will be made to the scoring and answer sheets. Prizes Chanhassen Environmental Academy: Jill updated the commission that the site visits have been confirmed with the staff at the site. The order of the presentations was changed to: 3 2 Aug.17 – Forestry workshop on current diseases and pests of trees Sept. 21 – tour of Carver Co unty Environmental Center Oct . 19 – tour of West Water Treatment Plant Finalize 2023 Work Plan: The commission did a final review of the work plan, making some changes, additions and deletions. The commission approved the final plan. Commissioner Updates: Greg didn’t attend the last watershed meeting. Julia reported that the Chanhassen HS Environmental Club met today. They made ornaments from recycling materials. There were about 15 students attending. Idea for future: Partner with Buy Chanhassen to promote events like Trivia Night. Ever wonder what happens at the Environmental Center? Want to know where your water comes from? Attend the Environmental Academy this year! Chanhassen residents interested in learning more about their environment can sign up for the Chanhassen Environmental Academy. The academy will be held over three months with a 90-minute class each month. The courses are aimed at helping residents and property owners learn more about their natural environment. Each class begins at 7 p.m. on the dates listed below. Two classes will be held in Chanhassen and one class will be held in Chaska at the Carver County Environmental Center. Meeting location details will be provided to registered participants. Thursday, Aug. 17 – What’s wrong with my Tree? Common problems and pests of trees Thursday, Sept. 21 – Carver County Environmental Center behind-the-scenes tour Thursday, Oct. 19 – Chanhassen water treatment behind-the-scenes tour The Chanhassen Environmental Academy is an initiative of the Chanhassen Environmental Commission.
