Over the past three months we have had 25 to 35 new people visit the Senior Center--all of whom have requested programming information and asked to be added to the Senior Center mailing list. As a result, I would like to coordinate a Welcome Committee for 2002. This committee would invite new members in for a short video presentation detailing with the Senior Center and its services, and then provide a complimentary lunch that would promote our new Lunch Express program. These meetings will encourage new members to meet other active members and hopefully create a comfort level to begin participation at the Senior Center I hope to organize this committee in January 2002. Increased participation at the Senior Center is always exciting! Over the last few years there has been concern regarding additional space, and the Senior Commission requested that I put together a report that demonstrates the growth we have seen over the years. Attached to this memorandum are three tables that compare daily attendance averages, activity attendance averages, and monthly attendance numbers. I have collected this information for the years of 1995 - 2001. After the first of the year I will use this data to complete a full report that will include bar graphs indicating the growth over the years and information on Senior Center rentals and peak usage times. Listed below are the averages for each daily activity for the months of November and December and the monthly attendance numbers for July 2001 - December 2001. A copy of the Chanhassen Senior Center News is attached for your information. Special Programs - The Senior Center will be hosting its annual Holiday Social at the Recreation Center on Friday, December 144 from 12 noon - 2:00pm. An hor'dourves luncheon will be catered by Millie's Deli and entertainment will be provided by the Buzz Danielson Fun Tyme Band. An average of 90 to 100 seniors attend. New Programs - Congregate Dining is offering a new program called Lunch Express. This program is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In the past, Monday - Friday congregate dining offered a lunch that included a meat, potato, vegetable, fruit and dessert. To attend these meals, a two-day reservation was required. Several complaints were made in regards to the flexibility and the amount of food served at lunch (too much!). To address these complaints, the CAP Agency (Community Action Program) organized Lunch Express. Lunch Express is a soup and sandwich lunch that is served at 11:30 a.m. and requires no reservation. All meals are served on a first come first served basis. The continuation of this program is based on the response in the next few months. Miscellaneous - The Senior Center purchased a new vacuum cleaner for general use. g:\parkkkaraXsenior ctr update 12.04.2001 Senior Center Rentals Weight Watcher's - Every Monday Garden Club - 2nd Tuesday Quilting Club - 3rd Saturday PEO Group from Waconia Minnesota Extension Service Dislocated Worker Program Healthscreen Plus Library Sponsored Groups / Events Parent / Child Book Club - Once a month Friends of the Library - Once a month Chanhassen Library Book Club - Once a month Chanhassen Library Board Meetings - One meeting a month quarterly Friends of the Library special events - Once a month quarterly Writer's Group - Once a month Carver County Library Board Meetings - 2 to 3 a year Spring Book Sale - Friday, Saturday and Sunday Fall Book Sale - Friday, Saturday and Sunday Winter Book Sale - Friday, Saturday and Sunday Chanhassen Senior Center NEWS New Phone Numbers The Senior Center and Congre gate Dininghave new phone numbers: Senior Center .............. 952227-1125 Congregate Dining .... 952-227-1127 Don't miss Doc 5everinson's holiday concert!
