Minutes:
May minutes were approved.
AIS presentation by Todd Hoffman:
AIS inspections initiated in 2012. The AIS program is collaboration
between RPBCWD, Lotus Lake Conservation Alliance, MnDNR, Carver County and the city. The city used to
contract inspection services with a private company. During the 2015 season inspections will be managed by
Carver County. Inspections cost about $25/inspection. 99% of boaters comply with laws. There have been three
close calls when inspectors stopped boats contaminated with zebra mussels from entering Lotus Lake. All
collaborators except MnDNR pay for inspections in Chanhassen.
Other comments from Todd:
City Council approved the city buying into a share of the Blue Lake solar Array. The array is 80% owned by the
Metropolitan Council.
Recycling bins were placed at all city parks last week. They have been well received.
The public has been intrigued by tree tags placed in Lake Ann Park.
Seminary Fen:
Glenn spoke with DNR. We will not hold the Fen clean up date in the fall. The commission is
instead interested in doing a buckthorn removal project elsewhere in the fall.
Arbor Day Poster Contest:
The commission voted for the three best tree photos. The public will select the top photo from the three at the
July 3 Trade Fair.
July 3 Trade Fair:
Don, Brett, Glenn, and Matthew are available to work at the business expo on July 3. Dave
and Amy may also be available. We plan to have EAB info displayed as well as the photo contest finalists. Jill
will supply the EAB display board, samples, brochures, bug tattoos and tablecloth as well as the photos and
voting supplies. Commissioners would like a potted tree for part of our booth and an example tree tag. No prize
wheel is necessary. Additional giveaways would be appreciated. The commissioners will plan to be there for the
entire event and take turns at the booth. Matthew will arrive at 4pm. Everyone else should plan to be there 4:30-
.
7:30pm. David (XL) and Don (L) need t-shirts Who, from city staff, will meet the commission at 4pm?
General Discussion
:
One of the commissioners inquired as to why the Park and Rec commission gets polos and the
Environmental Commission only gets t-shirts.
A commissioner suggested giving an award to the women who stopped the tree service from cutting down
the trees at a city park on the west side of Lotus.
