12-09-2015 Chanhassen Environmental Commission (EC) Regular Meeting December 9, 2015 Members Present: Don Vasatka, Amy Omann, Glenn Kaufmann, Matthew Myers Members Absent: David Hess, Bret Borth Staff Present: Jill Sinclair, Environmental Resources Specialist Minutes: November minutes were approved. 2016 Focus Topic and project/event development: A recommendation was made for Water Conservation as the 2016 Focus Topic. All approved. Ideas for the topic:  July 3 trade fair – show costs of wells: money spent, number of wells, visuals, ask city experts  Write an article early in the year about 10 quick tips to save water  Use original weekly WaterWise newsletters. Maybe post on FB each week?  Get an update from Terry on the re-use irrigation system at HS  Library – do display over summer months, possibly schedule speakers  Public art display  Contest – Photo with water theme; haiku, poem or story with water theme; logo for t-shirt or program. Start promotion early and have vote on July 3.  Speaker at commission: Terry, Krista, Madeleine or Craig Carlson/water treatment plant. Also could have specialist from MNDNR or U of MN  Fall Service Project – Sem Fen? 2016 Work Plan: The commission reviewed work plan and made changes as they went. It will be approved at the January meeting. Sustainability Report: Glenn explained to new members the history and process of the report. The commission will revisit the discussion about compiling the report in January. Next year, the sections can just be updated and the whole report kept online. The commission would like to know how many views of the report have been made over the last year. In January, the commission will assign sections and leaders. General Discussion :  The commission would like to advertise openings on the commission at the high school.  New Hope is installing LED lights with a mesh network so the lights can ‘talk’ to each other and be dimmed.
