The Commissioners gave a brief introduction of themselves to Lee
Scholder, the newly appointed commissioner. She shared information about her background and interests.
Review By-laws:
The commission reviewed the by-laws. No changes were made. They were approved
unanimously.
Election of Chair and Vice-Chair:
Marcus was nominated for Chair. David Wanek was nominated for
Vice-chair. Both were approved unanimously.
2005 Arbor Day poster contest:
The commission reviewed all of the posters received from the schools
and chose 7 top posters. Of those 7, one was selected as the grand prize winner. The first place poster was
by Lauren Kohler from Bluff Creek Elementary.
2005 Arbor Day planning:
Volunteers for the event will be Dotti, Ron, David and possibly Kim.
Eureka Recycling Facility Tour:
Marcus gave a re-cap of the tour. He said it was very informative and
the facility was clean and well-run. Eureka Recycling does a great job of educating its customers. Since
the tour, Carver county has switched to Eureka and is making more money from its recyclables.
Recycling brochure/’Caught Recycling’ program:
Marcus will bring in samples next month. The
commission thought a presentation should be made to the council on the ‘Caught Recycling’ program. A
city employee or a commissioner would roam around on a recycling day and give away some coupons to
the recycling center if they see someone carrying out their recycling. A picture could be taken for submittal
to the paper.
General Discussion:
There will be a joint meeting with the City Council on Monday, May 9. The commission decided to
?
discuss 3 issues with them – caught recycling program, hybrid car purchases, and wind energy.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm
