Approval of Minutes:
The April minutes were approved.
Fourth of July planning:
The Commissioners decided that they will use Dotti’s Tracker again. Dotti
offered to see if Eureka Recycling would loan one of their recycling trucks for the parade. Jill will try to
reserve the Woodsy Owl costume for the parade. Marcus has already reserved the Green Guardian again
for this year. Because of the costumes the float will need to be up front again. Commissioners will hand
out recycling coupons and candy (order more). Someone suggested using bikes but others thought that
would be too difficult to do while handing out items. They will review the plan in June. Commissioners
available to be at the parade include Marcus, Ron, Dotti, Lee (probably), Kim (maybe).
2005 Arbor Day review:
The day went very well considering the rain that started as the event began. The
bird feeders were a big hit. The sunflowers weren’t as popular, but the kids did enjoy the activity. The
speakers, Jim Gilbert and Norma Sommerdorf, had good turn-outs for their presentations. The
commissioners suggested having more signage inside the tent. Jill said that the tree sales exceeded supply
by 100 and the city had to take orders for trees. Next year, the city may sell something other than the
spruce. Jill will research the options and bring back the alternatives to the group.
Joint meeting with the City Council:
The Commissioners met with the council on May 9. They said the
meeting went well and that the council sounded interested in possibly purchasing E85 cars in the future. In
order to prove the benefits of any of the proposed programs – E85, wind turbine, organized collection or
return on recycling , Caught Recycling program, the commission will need to do more research.
General Discussion:
The commissioners directed Jill to add Pollution Prevention Week planning to June and July agendas.
?
Next year, the commission wants to look into entering the National Arbor Day Poster contest.
