03-12-03 Minutes CHANHASSEN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION (EC) REGULAR MEETING March 12, 2003 Meeting called to order at 7:33 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Kim Grant, Jo Mueller , Ron Olsen, Deborah Yungner MEMBERS ABSENT: Steve Nalefski, Dotti Shay STAFF PRESENT: Lori Haak, Water Resources Coordinator COUNCIL PRESENT: none GUEST PRESENT: Jason Henrickson, Chaska High School Student APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February minutes were approved. ARBOR DAY PLANNING: Jill reordered frisbees instead of ordering pots. Due to cost, not all kids will be able to pot a seedling, but pots and seedlings will be available in a more limited supply. Jo recommended checking with the Arboretum or a local nursery to see if someone would be willing to donate potting soil. Ron will design, print and coordinate the table tents. The table tents will include the winning poster on one side and a schedule of events on the other. Jo suggested the schedule include language to encourage people wanting to volunteer to call Jill. Deborah suggested the table tent say that lunch is provided for volunteers. There was discussion regarding the timing between feeding volunteers and other students arriving. Lori indicated that the food could probably be put inside the warming house so it would not be as accessible to others attending Arbor Day. Kim recommended having a sign to indicate what the food was for. Ron recommended a tent be rented so we didn’t end up with a lot of kids in the rain. Jo suggested contacting Rob Fuglie to invite his waterfowl group to have a display or presentation. Deborah suggested the Commission sell Blue Sky Guides. Ron added that bags could be sold as well. The Commission is encouraged to submit ideas for additional activities or programs that could be offered at Arbor Day. GENERAL DISCUSSION: Chapter 16 Ordinance Review: Lori recommended the Commissioners review Chapter 16 ? and get back to Jill as soon as possible with any comments. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Prepared and Submitted by Lori Haak G:\PLAN\JS\EC\EC03\03-12-03MIN.doc
