BURNING PERMITS: Jill Sinclair gave update on status of revised burning permit ordinance. The fire marshall is in the process of reviewing the new ordinance. It will go before the city council some time this summer. Deborah offered to write an article for the paper when it’s scheduled for the council agenda. ARBOR DAY: There was a low turnout for the wildlife presentation but still good participation for the adopt-a-park. The following suggestions were made for next year: have the presentation at noon or closer to when lunch is over; advertise with the schools; hand out planting instructions and location advice with the trees; have a commissioner dress up in an animal suit prior to the presentation to help advertise it. HAULER ISSUES: The commission compiled the following list of issues: Organized collection: something to pursue or not? ? Where is the waste going? Need to get that information out to public ? What is recyclable, what’s not? ? Haulers need to report to city where trash is going. ? Steve volunteered to write issue paper for council by September. Action points for the council will be: check with haulers to see where waste is going, charge haulers more for permits/licenses, prepare a city-wide mailing on the issues. Deborah will contact Marcus Zbinden with Carver County about what the EC can do to help promote the new recycling center. SHOPPING BAG PROJECT: About 70 bags have been sold so far. Jill will display them for sale at the front reception desk at city hall. The commission will give a mug and bag to each teacher who participated. It was suggested that the bags be available in the library and at the Lake Ann concession stand. Also they should be sold at the July 3 trade fair. GENERAL DISCUSSION: Deborah presented the commission with a packet of information concerning environmental ? standards for students. Need to check on bookplate for books donated to library. ? Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Prepared and Submitted by Jill Sinclair G:\PLAN\JS\EC\EC02\05-08-02MIN.doc
