CHANHASSEN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
April 11, 2001
Meeting called to order by Jo Mueller at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Jo Mueller, Susan McAllister, Sharon Beduhn, Kim Hankins
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Dotti Shay, Clay Smith
STAFF PRESENT:
Jill Sinclair, Environmental Resource Specialist
GUESTS:
Bob Ayotte, City Council liaison, Sharon Ayotte
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes from the March 14th meeting were approved.
SOLID WASTE DISCUSSION:
A presentation from Bob Generous, Senior Planner, was
postponed until next month’s meeting.
ARBOR DAY POSTERS:
None were received from the schools. The commission thought
there should be a follow-up with the principles or art teacher to find out why the schools didn’t
submit anything. Sharon volunteered to contact them. Staff will get Sharon the contact and
poster information.
ADOPT BY-LAWS:
Clarification of 1.4, 1.5, and 1.2 was asked of Councilman Ayotte. A
discussion developed concerning the roles and responsibilities of the commission. Councilman
Ayotte will check with the council on how the commission should interface with
events/activities/projects in Chanhassen. He will also clarify if the commission should educate
businesses as well as residents. Adoption was tabled until a report is received from the council.
CHAIR/VICE-CHAIR ELECTION:
Dotti Shay nominated as chair. All were in favor. Jo
Mueller was nominated as vice. All were in favor.
LIBRARY BOOKS:
Kim and Susan will prioritize the library book list and bring it back to the
commission in May.
ARBOR DAY 2001:
Volunteers for the day: Jo, Sharon, Susan, Clay, Dotti, Councilman
Ayotte and his wife.
SPECIAL WASTE DAY:
Event will be May 19. Volunteers need to arrive by 7:30 am.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
?
The commission discussed having either twice monthly meetings or establishing sub-
committees for large projects. The preference was for sub-committees and/or task forces.
This should be referenced in the by-laws.

An update roster of the commission is needed.
?
Clay will be in charge of organizing the EC display for Arbor Day.
?
The commission would like to review the community survey asap. Staff will e-mail the
commission with any updates.
?
Kim attended the Watershed Partners meeting and reported that they had a great display
that’s available to cities. She also reported that the phosphorous bill was killed by 4 local
communities.
?
The EE Award will be advertised at Arbor Day.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
