07-11-01 Minutes CHANHASSEN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING July 11, 2001 Meeting called to order by Dotti Shay at 7:14 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Dotti Shay, Jo Mueller, Kim Hankins, Clay Smith MEMBERS ABSENT: Sharon Beduhn, Susan McAllister CITY COUNCIL LIASON: Bob Ayotte, City Councilman STAFF PRESENT: Lori Haak, Water Resources Coordinator INTERVIEW WITH NEW APPLICANT: The commission interviewed Deborah Yungner. CITY COUNCIL UPDATE: Councilman Ayotte provided the commission with an update regarding water meters, water treatment and water use education. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from 6/27/01 were approved. LIBRARY BOOKS: Hankins added 6-9 resources to the book list that was provided to the commission. Hankins recommended removing about 25 books from the list. Hankins stated that she did not know how to proceed. The commission agreed to assist Hankins in choosing books to purchase. There was still some question regarding a time limit for spending the funds. Haak agreed to check with Jill Sinclair about any time limits. GENERAL DISCUSSION: ? Smith inquired about Pollution Prevention Week and agreed to do research on pollution prevention and perhaps write a letter or article. ? Hankins noted that Carver and Hennepin Counties would be selling home composters for $15 on 9/23/01 in front of Paper Warehouse. ? Haak stated that there were two more applicants for the vacancy on the commission and noted that the commission could convene once more before the August 13 interviews with City Council to interview the two applicants. Ayotte encouraged the commission to interview all applicants and make a recommendation to the Council. The commission scheduled a meeting to interview the applicants at 7 p.m. on 7/18/01. ? Bob Generous will be on the September agenda to discuss organized collection. ? The commission expressed interest in providing the City Council with an opportunity to learn about sustainable building so those concepts could be included in any future City buildings. ? Mueller and Hankins will work with staff to disseminate information on stormwater and wetlands to Longacres residents.
