CHANHASSEN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
July 18, 2001
Meeting called to order by Dotti Shay at 7:14 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Dotti Shay, Jo Mueller, Clay Smith, Susan McAllister
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Kim Hankins, Sharon Beduhn
STAFF PRESENT:
Jill Sinclair, Environmental Resources Coordinator
INTERVIEW WITH NEW APPLICANT:
The commission interviewed Steve Nalefski.
NEWSPAPER ARTICLE:
Clay stated that he had researched Minnesota companies that use or
produce recycled materials. He offered to write an article about the information for Pollution
Prevention Week. He also offered to submit an article regarding the Children’s Water Festival.
POLLUTION PREVENTION WEEK (P2):
Commissioners requested a presentation to the
Chamber of Commerce from the OEA regarding their program, Waste Free Fridays. Susan
volunteered to contact and arrange the meeting with the Chamber. Leslie Wilson at Carver
County has information on “sustainable public buildings”. The Commission would like to ask her
to do a presentation to the council and the EC on this subject. Waconia is supposedly
implementing some of the ideas, perhaps they should be contacted to see how they garnered
community support and momentum. Someone suggested that the EC produce a list of sustainable
subjects and who can teach them. Dotti will draft an outline for the memorandum. Jo and Dotti
will organize a poster contest for P2 week for the schools and give away composters to the
winners.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
