CHANHASSEN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
February 13, 1997
Meeting called to order by Uli Sacchet at 7:10 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
, Andrew Leith, Susan Morgan, Bill Coldwell, Charlie Eiler, Maureen
Farrell , Uli Sacchet, and Susan Wright
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Greg Havlik, Susan Markert
STAFF PRESENT:
Jill Sinclair, Environmental Resources Coordinator
ALGAE ORDINANCE:
Ms. Sinclair informed the Commission that the algae ordinance had
passed City Council and is about to be signed by the mayor. Phil Elkin received a call from the
Department of Agriculture regarding the ordinance and its possible conflict with state statutes.
Mr. Elkin is following up on the call and will update the Commission with any developments. The
educational brochure on nuisance algae was reviewed by the Commission. Discussion about
whether or not to include the Landscape Arboretum phone number on the brochure. It was
decided that only city staff phone numbers would be included
VILLAGER ARTICLES:
Dr. Leith distributed draft drawings to be included with the article.
Dr. Leith will revise the article the article to include new information on water use and supply,
add diagram, and redirect the focus of the article. He will e-mail the article to Commissioners and
Jerry Boucher.
WEB PAGE DEVELOPMENT:
The Environmental Commission now has a page on the City’s
web site. The two additional sections for ‘topics of the month’ and ‘upcoming events’ were
included. Mr. Coldwell suggested information on radon and volunteers for the tree inventory by
posted on the page.
TREE INVENTORY
: Ms. Sinclair gave an overview of the City’s plans for a comprehensive
street and possibly park tree inventory. The Commission gave its support for the project and will
try to help find volunteers for the inventory.
EVENT PLANNING:
Mr. Eiler said it’s important to get notices about Arbor Day out to scout
troops as soon as possible since camp registration is the same day.
Mr. Coldwell suggested there be an action list created for each meeting. He also pointed out that
there is only 10 weeks to organize for Arbor Day.
The Commission followed an outline of organizational items for the event. Discussion regarding
the items covered will be noted on the outline. Updated outlines will be sent with each packet.
GENERAL DISCUSSION
: Ms. Farrell informed the Commission about Career Days at Chaska
High School on May 1 and 2. It would be a one-hour commitment. The audience is eighth grade.
Interested Commissioners should call Maureen at home for more information.
