Senior Center Activities Update
2007 is off to a great start. Participation in all of the events, activities and
programs at the Senior Center has been good! The first Life-Lon~g Learning
class, offered by Augsburg's College of the Third Age, was held in February
with over 50 people attended. Five more classes will be offered in 2007(see
enclosed flyer). This program has been a great addition to the Senior Center's
current program base. My goal, when planning activities and programs, is to
offer a variety of new programs, hoping that the diversity will appeal to a more
diverse audience and draw new people into the Center.
The monthly Lunch Box Specials and day trips continue to be well attended.
Five extended trips will be offered in 2007. The first extended trip will be to
New York City with 16 people from the Senior Center going. The Woodcarving
group has grown both in numbers and days they carve. Several people are now
carving 2 days a week. If you haven't notice the display case in the lower level
hallway, please stop by and look at the changing displays, featuring different
carvings and techniques.
The Senior Perks coffee house opened on Friday, January 16. The first few
weeks were well attended and then attendance fell and therefore it has been
cancelled. I may offer this again in the spring/summer based on the Senior
Advisory Board's ideas and recommendations.
In February, I met with the Friends of the Library Board to explore how we can
work together, share information, and support each other. The Senior Center will
participate in the Friends annual book sales, Barkus Parade, and other new
upcoming special events.
I have been busy planning and preparing for the Senior Center's 15th
Anniversary Celebration which will take place throughout the month of May.
The month will be filled with many activities and special events helping us
remember our past, celebrate our present, and to look to the future. The main
event, which will be the Anniversary Dinner, will take place on the evening of
May 23. Your participation and attendance at this event, as well as other
activities, throughout the month is most welcome.
