MEMORANDUM
TO: Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent
FROM:
Nate Rosa, Recreation Supervisor N'f-
DATE:

SUBJ:
2007 4th of July celebration
The City of Chanhassen's 4th of July Celebration is rapidly approaching. All
activities will take place on Tuesday, July 3rd and Wednesday, July 4th. A
tentative schedule of events will be enclosed with this memo.
Two new components have been added for this year's celebration. Midwest
Rides and Concessions have been contacted in providing carnival rides during
both days of the event. In addition, 3rd Lair has been contracted to conduct a skate
competition in the skate park on July 3rd. Both of these aspects help to complete
our goal of offering something for all ages during this year's celebration.
A total of five "outside"food vendors have been contacted so far for this year's
celebration and an additional three to four food vendors will be provided by
Midwest Rides and Concessions. Eight to Twelve "city" food vendors will also
be present for the July 3rd events and the "Taste of Chanhassen" on July 4th.
Anticipated items to be served this year include: burritos, tacos, nachos, hot dogs,
hamburgers, sno-cones, cheese curds, beer battered fries, mozzarella sticks, soft
drinks, beer and more. Contact will occur with each individual vendor to
determine power needs, space requirements and all other physical arrangements.
This year's community parade will be held on Wednesday, July 4 beginning at
2:30 p.m. The parade route will be identical to last year. The parade will start at
Chapel Hill and travel north on Kerber Blvd. and then circle back to Chan View.
Contact with the parade committee will be ongoing to ensure the parade is
successful and coincides with the rest of the activities planned for the day.
Work with a T-shirt designer will begin soon to come up with the graphic that
will go on this year's T-shirt.
Two water-wars booths and a larger pony ring will be used again this year to try
and cut down on wait-time in lines. Other entertainment is being contacted to see
if services can be provided for our event.
The Casablanca Orchestra and Medicine Show Music Company have already
been approved and booked for this year's celebration.
The City of Chanhassen . A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks, A great place to live, work, and play.
The fireworks display has also been approved by council and Melrose
Pyrotechnics will once again be producing the fireworks display
Currently bids are out on selling "glow sticks" at this year's event. Once all bids
have been returned, a decision will be made as to which company will provide
this service.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
