2007 Easter Egg Candy Hunt Evaluation
The Chanhassen Parks and Recreation Department's Easter Egg Candy Hunt was
held on Saturday, April 7 at the Chanhassen Recreation Center. There were 255
kids registered for this event. The total of participants is slightly lower than last
years of 283 and this is being contributed to the cold weather. 163 participants
pre-registered and 92 registered the day-of.
Shawn Sweeney provided the entertainment for this year's event. This was the
first time Shawn has performed at our event and he had great crowd participation.
Volunteers from the Chaska High School Key Club were a tremendous asset with
setup, cleanup, candy distribution, and wearing the bunny costume. Volunteers
provide such a great service at these types of events. They will be asked to help
again next year.
I recommend that the Easter Egg Candy Hunt continue to be held at the
Chanhassen Recreation Center. It offers great flexibility for all weather
conditions. Due to the cold weather, the candy was still held outside but moved
to the courtyard area. This provided some shelter from the cold wind and
participants were only outside for 10-15 minutes. Parents and onlookers were still
able to view the candy hunt from inside the lobby of the recreation center through
the windows. I would recommend conducting the candy hunt in the same area if
there is cold wind the day of the event.
In keeping with our goal of providing high quality programs throughout, we again
used color posters made by the city hall front office staff for all aspects of the
event. i.e. coloring contest categories, sponsorship thank you posters, registration
table signs, and directional signs.
As a bonus to parents theywere able to enter a drawing for some prizes. This
year's prizes included a free sundae at Culvers/Chanhassen, two $15 gift
certificates to Byerly's, and one $25 gift certificate to the Mustard Seed
Landscaping and Garden Center.
The City of Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2008
~ Continue holding the event at the Chanhassen Recreation Center.
~ Once again do not list the start times for the candy hunt.
~ Continue having the Key Club and other volunteers set up the morning of
the event.
~ Registration and check-in tables should be put on both sides of the
hallway again. This forced participants to walk through and check-in or
register.
~ Continue handing out candy bags to kids as they leave the registration
table.
~ Add a 3 year old and under category to the coloring contest.
