02-28-2023 PRC MinutesCHANHASSEN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 28, 2023 Chairman Tsuchiya called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Karl Tsuchiya, Jim Peck, Don Vasatka, Matt Kutz, Heather Markert, Dan Eidsmo, Youth Commissioner Alex Jerdee. MEMBERS ABSENT: Scott Fischer. STAFF PRESENT: Jerry Ruegemer, Park and Recreation Director; Priya Tandon, Recreation Manager. PUBLIC PRESENT: Judy Harder. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Commissioner Peck moved, Commissioner Markert seconded to approve the agenda as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: Recreation Manager Tandon shared that the annual spring/summer Chanhassen Connection went out to residents over the previous weeks and is also available online; most summer rec programs are now open for registration. Park and Recreation Director Ruegemer shared that the warming houses are closed for the season. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: APPROVE PARK & RECREATION MINUTES DATED JANUARY 24, 2023 Commissioner Eidsmo moved, Commissioner Peck seconded to approve the Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission Meeting dated January 24, 2023 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. GENERAL BUSINESS: Park and Recreation Commission Minutes – February 28, 2023 2 1. Review Park and Recreation Commission Handbook Park and Recreation Director Jerry Ruegemer spoke about a brand-new document for the city that will help new Commissioners transition onto the PRC. It includes a variety of information such as meeting dates, background, City Code and Mr. Ruegemer would like the Commission to review the document and give feedback before the April meeting. REPORTS: 1. February Festival Evaluation Recreation Manager Tandon shared that Feb Fest was scheduled for February 4, however due to inconsistent ice conditions on Lake Ann the City cancelled the event. Ice Fishing Contest participants were offered the choice to receive a refund or apply the purchased tickets to the 2024 contest. Ms. Tandon noted the Medallion Hunt was held and the medallion was found on Friday, February 3. She noted expense reports for 2022 and 2023 are attached in the packet. Everything purchased will be retained and used for next year’s event and many sponsors generously offered their donations to be kept by the City. Commissioner Markert spoke about the City of Buffalo’s Ice Festival and noted they encourage people to bring kites out on the ice which is very colorful and fun. COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS: None. COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS: Chair Tsuchiya has enjoyed being on the Commission and shared the following month will be his last. ADMINISTRATIVE PRESENTATIONS: None. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Kutz moved, Commissioner Eidsmo seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0.
