9-15-2023CHANHASSEN COMMISSION ON AGING MINUTES September 15, 2023 MEMBERS PRESENT: Gwen Block, Beth Mason, Ruth Lunde, Bhakti Modi, Kara Cassidy, Laura Baumtrog (Commissioner Modi joined the meeting at 10:20.) MEMBERS ABSENT: Ruth Slivken, Jim Camarata STAFF PRESENT: Eric Maass, Planning Director, Mary Blazanin, Senior Center Coordinator, Jerry Ruegemer, Park & Recreation Director GUESTS PRESENT– Linnea Fonnest, Adults Services Librarian. Dawn Plumer, Carver County Health and Human Services APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Block made the motion to approve the agenda. Commissioner Cassidy seconded. All members voted in favor and the motion carried. Agenda was approved. COMMISSION ON AGING MINUTES MAY 19, 2023 Commissioner Cassidy made the motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Mason seconded. All members voted in favor and the motion carried. Minutes were approved. DISCUSSION ITEMS: Discussion between Commission On Aging and Senior Volunteer Corps Members from the commission on aging and senior volunteer corps introduced themselves to one another and senior center coordinator provided a brief summary to the Commission as to what the goals and activities of the volunteer corps is and the integral role they play in successful programming of the senior center. The Commission thanked the volunteer corp for all of their efforts past and future and looks forward to continued coordination between the two groups. Parks and Recreation Department Updates The city’s Park and Recreation Director, Jerry Ruegemer, presented to the Commission an update on the Lake Ann Park Preserve project as well as the potential Chanhassen Bluff’s sports complex. The Lake Ann Park Preserve project is currently going through the design and permitting process and anticipates construction in 2024. The Chanhassen Bluff’s sports complex project is anticipating a local option sales tax referendum in November 2024. If passed, funding through the $0.50 sales tax would generate revenue to help pay for the regional sports complex. Senior Community Services Lee Ann Eiden and Adele Mehta from Senior Community Services presented to the Commission On Aging meeting on the services offered by the Senior Community Services organization. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: Linnea Fonnest gave an update to the Commission about an upcoming Trellis event on September 21st at 3 p.m. in the library and encouraged attendance. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Mason called for meeting adjournment. Commissioner Baumtrog seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
