PRC SUM 2007 07 24 CHANHASSEN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY MINUTES JULY 24, 2007 Chairman Stolar called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.. MEMBERS PRESENT: Glenn Stolar, Steve Scharfenberg, Tom Kelly, Thor Smith, Dan Campion, Paula Atkins and Jeff Daniel STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent; and John Stutzman, Recreation Supervisor APPROVAL OF AGENDA:Scharfenberg moved, Daniel seconded to approve the agenda, amended to include City Council update under Commission Member Presentations. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: Todd Hoffman provided an update on the lawn sprinkling and irrigation ban approved by the City Council at their meeting on July 23, 2007 and an update on the remaining concerts scheduled for Thursday. Jerry Ruegemer introduced John Stutzman, the new Recreation Supervisor. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: Ray Gilgendach from Arboretum Village asked if the city had plans to hook up the city's trail system with Chaska's trail system, suggested the possibility of using his boat for bringing people fishing on Lake Ann and asked for extended hours at Lake Ann Park. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Scharfenberg moved, Kelly seconded to approve the verbatim and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated June 26, 2007 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. 2008 PARK AND TRAIL ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (CIP). Todd Hoffman outlined staff's proposals for the 5 year CIP for 2008 through 2012. Commissioner Campion asked for clarification on how money is received for park development. Chairman Stolar asked about committed funds, ballfield lighting, Phase II playgrounds, and the Highway 101 north trail connector. Commissioner Kelly suggested moving the Pioneer gap trail connection up a couple years. Commissioner Atkins noted there were items not listed on the CIP that also needed to be prioritized. The commission decided to meet at a work session prior to the regular Park and Recreation Commission meeting th on August 28 to review those items. Park and Rec Commission Summary - July 24, 2007 RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS: th 2007 FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION. John Stutzman reviewed the events of the 4 of July celebration and provided suggestions for 2008. Commissioner Daniel suggested selling t-shirts during the parade. Chairman Stolar asked for clarification on the drastic reduction in revenues from previous years. Commissioner Kelly offered suggestions on the quality and quantity of t-shirt sales for next year. FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUE REPORT. Jerry Ruegemer provided an update on the upcoming fall softball league. ADMINISTRATIVE PRESENTATIONS: BIKE TOUR. Todd Hoffman asked for commission input on a date for the bike tour with the Park and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, City Council and staff. COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS: Chairman Stolar provided an update on the rd July 23 City Council meeting in which the Lake Ann Park picnic shelter and ballfield lighting projects were approved. ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET: Chairman Stolar commented on the item regarding park shelter reservations being available online in the future. Daniel moved, Campion seconded to adjourn the meeting.
