Tree Lighting Evaluation
This year's Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Saturday, December 1
from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Mayor Furlong and his family officially flipped the switch
for the tree and City Center Park at 5:25 p.m. It is estimated that there were 110
people in attendance at the event. This is up from last year's attendance, but I
believe snow and wind kept more people from attending the event.
Refreshments
Nancy J. Lipinski, from Lipinski Accounting & Tax Services, LLC, was
responsible for obtaining donations of food and drink from local organizations in
the community. The contributing organizations were: Byerly's, Cub Foods,
Starbuck's Coffee, Bethel Fellowship, Community Bank of Chanhassen, General
Mills-Chanhassen, The Mustard Seed Landscaping and Garden Center, and the
Chanhassen Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. The City
purchased candy canes for the young children in attendance. All refreshments
were served in City Center Park.
Bonfire
The Park Maintenance staff set up a wonderful, warm bonfire area for all to enjoy.
The bonfire was definitely a nice component to have at the event since it was
quite chilly that night.
Santa Claus
The Mustard Seed Landscaping and Garden Center provided people to play Santa
and one of his elves. They did a nice job with the young children. They arrived
by fire truck with flashing lights and sirens! They entertained the crowd, passed
out candy canes, and posed for pictures. Mark Halla of The Mustard Seed
Landscaping and Garden Center is already looking forward to helping out again
next year. He has also offered to bring reindeer in the future.
Carolers
Living Christ Lutheran Church of Chanhassen provided a group of carolers at the
event. They were very excited to be apart of this celebration and are already
looking forward to helping out again next year. .
The City ot Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.

Other Comments
As a whole, this is a great community event; but as with all community events
there is room for growth. In the future, some simple additions could be made to
enhance this event and create a more formal schedule for the evening. This could
ensure the continued success of this wonderful holiday occasion. Overall, the
event went well and I believe that continuing with similar activities would be
appropriate for next year.
