Senior Center Activities Update
Participation in all of the events and programs at the Senior Center this fall has
been great! Regular activities and special events continue to fill and to draw
new participants. Listed below are a few special events I want to highlight this
quarter.
September Senior Safety and Senior Commission Open House: This year
these 2 events were combined. Over 50 participants had an opportunity to meet
the Senior Commission, learn about the ICE card, Senior Safety, In-Home
Emergency Preparedness, and Fraud and Identity Theft.
October Flu Shot Clinic: The 2007 flu shot clinic was the biggest and best yet.
185 shots were given with minimum waits. There was a lot of socializing
occurring among people, which was great as a good number of the people
receiving shots are not regular Senior Center participants. The nurses from
MVNA said it was the best organized site they visited. Thanks to the wonderful
Senior Center volunteers.
November Veterans Day Celebration: On November 9, the Senior Center
offered its first Veterans Day Celebration~ thanking and paying tribute to local
veterans. We had a great turnout with 70+ people. The Chanhassen American
Legion Color Guard posted the colors, followed by presentations from Dave
Prien, Carver County Veterans Service Officer~ K.J. McDonald (Watertown
Mayor) who spoke about the Washington DC trip that 103 Carver County
veterans took in Apri12007~ and local service men and woman talking about
their tour of duty. The. presentations were followed by Gary Boyle updating
participants on the Chanhassen Veterans Monument and Bethany Tjornhom
informing people about the getaway resort program for returning soldiers and
their families. A wonderful time was had by all. A special thanks to the
Chanhassen American Legion for donating and preparing the food for the
breakfast.
The City of Chanhassen . A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.

Doll Show and Tea Party: On November 10, 2007, the Senior Center
partnered with the Friends of the Library for the first Doll Show and Tea Party.
The Doll Show took place at the Chanhassen Library and the Senior Center
hosted the Tea Party. Approximately 80 people attended.
Medicare Part D Presentation: In November, the center had a presentation
highlighting the changes in 2008 for Medicare Part D.
These are only a few of the many programs and activities that were offered this
fall. If you ever visit city hall during the day (especially an afternoon), sneak a
peek at the lower level parking lot. It tells the story. Lots of people and lots of
fun!
