Participation in all of the events, activities and programs at the Senior Center has been good! One of my goals for 2008 is to add health 'and fitness classes and activities. A Tai Chi class has been added and both session 1 and 2 are off and running. In April, a new evidence base fitness program called EnhanceFitness will begin. This program will be held at the Recreation Center, 2 days per week and will be taught by an EnhanceFitness trained personal trainer. The class will cover strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning which is geared to the individual's fitness level. The Senior Center has purchased a Nintendo Wii and will be doing demonstrations and will look to start fall leagues in various sports. Nintendo Wii's are the new rage at Senior Centers and offer a great and fun workout. The Augsburg's College of the Third Age: Life-Long Learning presentations continue in 2008. KleinBank Chanhassen is again sponsoring this program. Interest and attendance in these presentations has been great and people love the variety of topics. The monthly Lunch Box Specials and day trips continue to be well attended. Attendance at regular weekly activities such as Bridge, Bingo, CHAN-o-Iaires, Woodcarving and Thursday cards has seen an increase in attendance. During spring break, an Introduction to Woodcarving Class for children in grades 4-8 taught by two of our master carvers was offered. Extended trips continue to draw new and different people. The April trip to Chicago, via Amtrak is full. An October overnight mystery trip is being planned with Chaska and will offer people who can't participate in longer trips a fun, short get-away. Mark you calendars for a special event! A spring concert, "Chanhassen Celebration of History and Arts" will take place on May 18 at the old St Hubert's Church. Watch for more information. The Senior Center is participating in a number of charitable endeavors. As a lot of our participants can't actively volunteer, we are collecting items for a monthly pick-up to MN Operation Nice, Feed My Staving Children, CAP Agency Food shelf as well as gathering books to for the library of the American Cancer Society Hope House in Minneapolis. The City of Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play
