MEMORANDUM

2008 Fourth of July Celebration
FROM:
DA TE:
SUBJ:
The City of Chanhassen's 4th of July Celebration is rapidly approaching. All
activities will take place on Thursday, July 3rd and Friday, July 4th. A tentative
schedule of events is attached to this memo.
A total of two food vendors have been contacted so far for this year's celebration
with two confirmations. The reason for the lower food total is the Chanhassen
Rotary is supervising a majority of the food vendors this year in the Taste of
Chanhassen. We are looking to have this community event incorporate more
community food vendors. Anticipated items to be served this year include:
burritos, tacos, nachos, hot dogs, hamburgers, sno-cones! cheese curds, beer-
battered fries, mozzarella sticks, soft drinks, beer and more. Contact will occur
with each individual vendor to determine power needs, space requirements, and
all other physical arrangements.
This year's community parade will be held on Friday, July 4 beginning at
2:30 p.m. The parade route will be identical to last year. The parade will start at
Chapel Hill and travel north on Kerber Boulevard and then circle back to Chan
View. Communication with the parade committee will be ongoing to ensure the
parade is successful and coincides with the rest of the activities planned for the
day. The Chanhassen Rotary is implementing a new feature to this year's parade
by selling numbered squares on the street to coincide with "horse activity."
The 25th anniversary logo for the t-shirts has been selected. As requested by the
Park and Recreation Commission, staff did reach out to the community to create
the logo. We received 7 logos from 3 different people and staff is very pleased
with the logo selected. A copy of the logo is attached.
Additional events are being reviewed and some will be added to this year's
celebration:
. Two Water-Wars booths and a larger pony ring have been requested to try
and cut down on lines.
The City 01 Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.

· Other entertainment is being contacted to see if services can be provided
for our event.
· Midwest Rides and Concessions have been contacted to provide carnival
rides during both days of the event.
· 3rd Lair has been contracted to conduct a skate competition in the skate
park on July 3rd.
· The Casablanca Orchestra and Medicine Show Music Company have
already been approved and booked for this year's celebration.
· The ChanJam '08 winner, Karmel from Chaska High School, will be
performing the opening act prior to The Casablanca Orchestra.
· The fireworks display has also been approved by council and Melrose
Pyrotechnics will once again be producing the display.
. Bids are out on selling "glow sticks" and once all bids have been returned,
a decision will be made as to which company will provide this service.
Currently the layout for July 3rd events is being reviewed to accommodate
requests from business participants. Updates will be given when decisions are
made.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
