Angie,
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me this afternoon regarding Valvoline's
intentions to upgrade the appearance of our Chanhassen facility. As I mentioned we are in
the process of rolling out a new prototype building design and are trying to go through
and freshen up some of our older facilities as well. The location in Chanhassen opened on
9/30/1991 and has seen a few prototype changes during that time period.
Here is a look at the prototype design of the late 1980's through late
1990's:
(See attached file: 1st Gen Late 80s bldg.jpg)
And here are a few shots of some locations we have recently converted in other markets.
(See attached file: VIOC Before & After Examples.pdf)
Here are some photos showing the existing Chanhassen location including a copy of the site
plan:
(See attached file: 01-42.pdf) (See attached file: DSC00153.jpg) (See attached file: IMG_

(See attached file: IMG_9631.JPG)
And here are the same photos retouched to show the proposed new sign
package:
(See attached file: 01-42_MN_right.jpg) (See attached file:
01-42_MN_front_.jpg) (See attached file: 01-42_MN-pylon.jpg) (See attached

The above proposed sign drawings are based on the following sign code
criteria:
Pylon Sign:
pole w/ 55 SF sign
Front Elevation:

Right Elevation:

I did review the aerial photo that you sent and am surprised by the configuration of the
BP property, I thought we abutted the highway right-of-way line. As you can see from our
site plan and the attached photos our pylon is located in the SE corner of our property
and is now blocked from view by the recent expansion of the facility to the east of us.
Our intention would be to reuse or the existing pole at a minimum or preferably relocate
it to optimize visibility from Hwy 5. A pylon/monument sing at the end of a cul-de-sac is
of little value to us.
Please review the attached information and contact me with your comments.
I welcome to opportunity to sit down with you to discuss our project in person and answer
any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Mark J. Gilbertson
