Tour of Carver County Environmental Center:
Bill gave the commission an overview of the
center’s usage by the public. He stated that visits to the Env. Center have increased every year.
There was a record number of visits in 2007 and the center is on pace to surpass that in 2008.
People drop off special waste items in addition to the common recycling items that would be
collected curbside. One of the reasons that people may drop off recyclable at the center is that
the end processing of them is insured to be done correctly. This summer the county dropped all
fees for electronics recycling for residents. When that happened the amount of electronics
received at the center tripled. There has been talk of expanding hours, but the hours will remain
the same for the foreseeable future.
Environmental Excellence Award Nominations
: The commission continued their discussion
of nominees. Beverly suggested Lifetime because of possible green building practices. She will
look into it further. Also suggested was the can recycling by the boy scouts at the Sinclair
station and Community Bank.
General Discussion
:
Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:30 PM.
