2009 Dance Party on Ice
The newest Park and Recreation program, Dance Party on Ice, was held Friday,
January 9 at the Chanhassen Recreation Center Ice Rinks. It was a successful
event and I look forward to building on it in the future! We had total paid
admissions of 48 participants'. Additionally, about 20 parents attended and gave
staff very positive feedback on the program. Staff was very pleased with the
turnout for this first time event.
DJ Bob provided great music and activities for this event. Games and dances
were mixed throughout the event, such as the ChaCha Slide, Chicken Dance, a
backwards skating race, among other activities. DJ Bob did a great job and is
very easy to work with. He had great crowd participation as well.
Cookies, cider, and hot chocolate were available for all of the participants in the
Rec Center warming house, providing an opportunity for participants to warm up
with a snack. This program was staffed by four additional warming house
attendants on duty for the evening. Additionally, Forrest Adams from the
Chanhassen Villager, was in attendance and has posted video footage from the
program on YouTube. We've provided a link to the video on the city's web site
at www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us under the "What's New" section. Check it out!
Overall this was a fun event that people enjoyed and I would recommend
continuing this in the future.
RECOMMENDA TIONS FOR 2009
· Continue to send e-blast to all emails within our system in the specified age
range. Also look for additional ways to market the program.
· Add "mood lighting" around the boards to make it more festive.
· Continue to have the portable tent available for DJ use in case of snow.
· Continue to have the DJ provide additional activities with the music such as
games, contests, and fun dance songs.
· Have rink attendants staff the event to provide quality customer service.
· Once the program is more established, consider multiple dates.
