2009 February Festival Evaluation
Food and Drink Concessions
The Chanhassen Rotary Club operated the concessions at this year's festival.
With the good weather, sales were steady for most of the day. This year they
obtained a liquor license and sold beer and spiked hot chocolate in addition to
food concessions. I would invite them back to next year's festival.
Bonfires
This year we added a second bon fire and placed them on opposite ends of the
contest area. Both bonfires were extremely popular throughout the entire festival.
There always was a crowd of people around both fires. I would recommend that
we continue to have two fires in future years.
S'more CookoutlBait Sale
Chanhassen Boy Scout Troop #330 sold s'more kits and bait again at this year's
festival. They were successful selling bait, and due to the popularity of the fire,
did well on s'more kits, too. I would recommend inviting them back to next
year's festival.
Skatin2 Rink
This was a popular location at the festival. People of all ages were utilizing the
ice rink and enjoyed the addition of the loop at the end of the normal rink. It
allowed for an alternate activity within view of the fishing contest area. I would
recommend continuing this activity for next year's event.
Slidin2 Hill
The sliding hill was pretty popular this year. Again, it is a great activity to have
in addition to the fishing contest. I would recommend that the sliding hill be
incorporated into next year's Feb Fest.
SIei2h Rides
This new activity quickly became very popular, adding another non-fishing
family activity to the event. I believe it drew families to the event that may not
have otherwise participated. It allowed for a mobile view of the fishing contest
area and I would recommend continuing this activity for next year's event.

Medallion Hunt
The Friends of the Library developed the clues for this year's medallion hunt.
The clues were given out the week leading up to Feb Fest. I would recommend
that we continue the Medallion Hunt in the same capacity next year as it gets the
community more involved. A statement should also be made warning the public
not to destroy areas of the city when looking for the medallion.
Ice Fishin2 Contest
A total of 1224 tickets were sold for the contest--424 tickets were sold through
advance sales and 800 were sold the day of the event. Ticket sales were similar to
2008. Overall, the contest went smoothly and over 100 fish were caught,
weighed, and released!
General Comments/Su22estions
. Continue announcing door prize winners by both their name and by their
ticket number. A lot of people don't pay attention to their ticket number.
This helps alleviate all the congestion in front of the prize board after
the contest.
. With growing popularity of the celebration, I would recommend getting more
portable restrooms on the ice in the future.
. Continue putting a black mark on the back of each winning door-prize ticket.
This makes it a lot easier to find any unclaimed winners.
. Continue to look into adding other non-fishing activities that are still in view
of the fishing contest area.
. The new larger tent worked very well. This allowed the Bingo sponsored by
the Friends of the Chanhassen Library to be under the tent in a separated area
in addition to the prizes, weigh-in station, and allowed more space for
conceSSIons.
. Continue to have picnic tables by the ice rink allowing people to sit and watch
the rink as well as change boots and skates.
. With the success of the hayrides, I recommend extending the time rides are
given from two hours to three hours to allow more people to participate in this
activity.
. The Chanhassen Rotary volunteered to drill the contest holes for this year's
event. This was very generous and I would ask them to participate in the
future.
