Stutzman, Recreation Supervisor DATE: March 24, 2009 SUBJ: 200812009 Ice Rink Season Evaluation This year's ice skating rink season ran from December 18, 2008 to March 2, 2009 with roughly 8,521 participants recorded during supervised hours. Warming houses were offered at City Center Park, North Lotus Park, Roundhouse Park, and the Chanhassen Recreation Center. We also had two locations, Chanhassen Hills Park and Rice Marsh Lake Park, with pleasure rinks; however, they were unsupervised without warming houses. This season, warming houses were open 74 days and were closed 12 days due high temperatures, low temperatures, and poor surface conditions. Rink User Totals December January February March Total City Center 437 811 517 11 1776 Rec Center 871 1688 993 43 3595 North Lotus 543 1314 543 62 2462 Roundhouse 204 331 153 - 688 Total Usage 2,055 4,144 2,206 116 8,521 Warming house trailers were rented for North Lotus Park and City Center Park. Once again we used a different company (Mobile Minis) for the warming house trailer rentals; however, we have used them in the past. The Mobile Mini trailers sit flush on the ground and do not require steps to gain entrance into the structure. The inside of the trailers are one complete open room allowing for direct visual contact between the rink attendant and participants. Both of these attributes contribute to greater overall safety during the ice skating experience. While the Mobile Minis product is preferred, the company has been difficult to work with. I recommended we consider an alternative vendor next year. Temporary and seasonal wages totaled $12,818.75 with a total of 1,663.75 hours being worked.
