This is a reminder that the City Council and Housing and
Redevelopment Authority will be discussing Senior Housing on
Tuesday, August 16, 1994, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council
Chambers.

REGULAR MEETING

Chairman Howard called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sherol Howard, Jane Kubitz, Bernice Billison, Mark Littfin Sr,
Selda Heinlein and, Barbara Headla.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Albin Olson.
STAFF PRESENT: Sharmin AI-Jaff, Planner n, Kitty Sitter, Senior Linkage Line
Coordinator.
APPROV AL OF THE AGENDA: Bernice Billison moved to approve the Agenda, Barbara
Headla seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES DATED JUNE 17.1994: The minutes were approved as
submitted.
VISITOR PRESENTATION: There were non
MIDYEAR UPDATE ON GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.

1. SENIOR CENTER: Senior Center is still included within the future expansion of City
Hall.
2. TRANSPORTATION: AI-Jaff stated that this is an ongoing issue. We are always
working closely with Southwest Metro Transit. We intend to apply for a grant through
the Metropolitan Council for funding of a better public transit bus for the senior
population. Staff will also work with Carver County on this issue.
3. INFORMATION AND REFERRAL / SENIOR LINKAGE LINE: Staff stated that Senior
Linkage Line is gaining a positive reputation. The number of calls is on the rise.
CHORE program will soon be incorporated into Senior Linkage Line.
4. SENIOR HOUSING: Staff stated that the Vision 2002 is still looking at the site located
north of Byerly's. This site will accommodate 60 units rather than the 72 units
recommended in the study.
5. CHANHASSEN HERITAGE PRESERVATION: Inactive.
6. CHORE CORPS: This is a program designated to provide services to help seniors remain

independent and take care of themselves by assisting them with tasks that have become
too tough for them to manage on their own. A $50,000 grant was awarded to Mid
Minnesota SAIL to pilot this project of which Carver County will be the main
demonstration site. Senior Linkage Line is working in partnership with Chore Corps.
7. SENIOR PARKING at Public Buildings: Staff stated that a letter will be sent to
businesses within the community requesting senior parking be provided.
8. URGENT CARE FACILITIES: Inactive.
9. TREE PLANTING along the entryway into the Senior Center to block the wind: Inactive.
The City Manager directed staff to delay this project until the City Council votes on the
City Hall future expansion.

SENIOR GROCERY SHOPPING: Inactive.
SENIOR NEWSLETTER EXPANSION: Inactive.
COOPERATIVE COMMUNICATION with neighboring Senior Centers:
Cooperative Communications.
Coordination of Events.
Transportation Coordination with other Senior Centers.
The Senior Center has extended invitations to other Senior Centers within Carver County
and the attendance has been good. Quarterly meetings have been taking place with South
Shore Senior Center to work cooperatively on projects.
UPDATE ON SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES.
The commission discussed price tags associated with some of the activities offered at the
Senior Center. It was suggested that the prices be lowered. It was also suggested that the
agenda be posted at the senior center.
UPDATE ON THE CHORE PROGRAM AND SENIOR LINKAGE LINE (SLL).
Kitty Sitter reported that the South Shore bus will be picking up seniors in Chanhassen to
take them to Target.
The CHORE Core should be established by the end of summer.

A new radio station, KDUZ, will air a program called second wind. This program is targeted
toward seniors at 12:00 a.m.
SENIOR COMMISSION COMMENTS.
The Commission discussed the option of rotating commissioners at the Senior Center
Advisory Committee.
Heinlein moved, BiIIison seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried. The meeting was adjourned.
