Park & Trail Report
This spring the Park Maintenance Department has been very busy with the start
up of the park shelters, drinking fountains, installation of the docks and fishing
piers, irrigation systems, and the layout and striping of 25 ball fields and 10
soccer fields.
This year thirty-five seniors from Minnetonka High School participated in the
Senior Service Day Project. They worked with park staff wood chipping around
trees and bushes by Minnewashta Park and grouting the pavers in City Center
Park with granite chips.
The Sentence to Serve (STS) workers did the spring clean up downtown, around
City Hall, the Library, the Fire Stations, and Pioneer Cemetery. There were eight
workers for three and one-half days.
Extra time was spent getting City Center Park ready for the Veterans Monument
dedication ceremony.
This was the first year that we had some trouble with one of our fishing piers.
When the ice went out at Lake Minnewashta, it pushed the pier up on the shore
which caused damage to the ramp. With the help of one of the city's mechanics,
we straightened and welded the ramp and the DNR supplied all the wood needed
for the decking.
The park staff has been spraying dandelions and fence lines in the community
parks and at both elementary schools. The first pass of mowing has also begun
along all the trails.
