We still have four senior seasonal workers keeping the parks and trails mowed and assisting with other duties until they leave in November. Athletic Fields The park staff has laid out and stripped 20 soccer fields this year. There are no football fields in use. Work on ball fields 2 & 3 at Lake Ann is currently being done. The infields and pitchers mounds are being rebuilt, the base lines are being moved to get the proper distance to back stops, and new infield sod and irrigation is being installed. Fishing Pier The fishing pier on Lake Minnewashta by Round House Park is getting a 22' extension to get it out beyond the weeds. This will make it easier for people to fish. The DNR will supply the extension and the park department will do the work of putting it together. The extension arrived on September 9th but the handrail and hardware is still on order. Rec Center Shelter A contractor has been hired to remove the concrete floor under the shelter and several areas of sidewalk that could be potentially hazardous. Some areas of the sidewalk by the shelter will be enlarged which will help with snow removal. The park staff will also be installing drain tile under the shelter floor and near some sidewalks to help drain excessive water around the building. South Lotus Lake Playground The playground at this park has been getting some improvements this summer. The wood border has been removed and a concrete sidewalk with curb will be installed the week of September 14th. The pea rock has been removed and will be replaced with wood fiber after the sidewalk is installed. Chanhassen is a Community for Life.
