Recreation Programs and Activities
The following is a list of programs and activities being offered this winter. In-
depth descriptions are available upon request and I welcome your thoughts
and suggestions.
Tree Lighting Ceremony - This event will take place on Saturday,
December 5th at 5:00 p.m. in City Center Park. Festivities include caroling,
live reindeer, refreshments, a bonfire, gingerbread house displays, lighting of
the holiday tree, and a special visit from Santa.
Rec Center Sports - Jodi Sarles and John Stutzman supervise this new sports
program that began in September. They combined existing programs with
some new ideas and offer preschool and after-school sports programs
throughout the year. Four staff members have been hired to assist with
implementation and, to date, we have offered two preschool programs and two
after-school programs. Overall, it has been a great success. Upcoming
programs are preschool basketball, floor hockey, skating lessons and clinics,
after-school floor hockey and dodge ball.
Dance Party On Ice - This program features our outdoor ice rinks at the Rec
Center with lights and a DJ playing music and games. After a successful
inaugural event last year, this program is continuing to grow with two sessions
offered this winter. The first session is Friday, January 8th and the second is
Friday, February 1ih. This program is designed for participants ages 6 - 15.
Parents are also welcome to participate at no charge.
Design Your Own Skateboard - The city is partnering with 3rd Lair Skate
Park and participants will be instructed on how to build a skateboard.
Participants will receive a blank skateboard deck to design and personalize.
This class will be held on February 2nd and 9th.
DaddylDaughter Date Night - This is one of our most popular events each
year. It is designed to create a special night specifically for fathers (or

grandfathers) and daughters. This special night includes dinner, games,
balloon artists, face painters, and a dance. Two sessions are offered: Friday,
February 19th and Saturday, February 20th.
Adult 3-on-3 Winter Basketball - Games will be played on Monday nights
at the Chanhassen Recreation Center. This recreational league focuses on
enjoyment and exercise. The league begins January 11th and concludes
March 15th.
