RECREATION COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
DECEMBER 8, 2009
Chairman Daniel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Jeff Daniel, Elise Ryan, Glenn Stolar, Tom Kelly, Steve
Scharfenberg, and Thor Smith
MEMBERS ABBSENT:
Scott Wendt
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent; John Stutzman, Recreation Supervisor; Jodi Sarles, Recreation Center Manager;
Susan Bill, Senior Center Coordinator; and Dale Gregory, Park Superintendent
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Scharfenberg moved, Kelly seconded to approve the agenda
as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
None.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
None.
RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS:
Jerry Ruegemer reported on the Tree Lighting
th
Ceremony that was held on Saturday, December 5, the in-house Rec Center Sports program,
Dance Party on Ice which will be held in January and February, a new program “Design Your
Own Skateboard”, Daddy-Daughter Date Night and the 3 on 3 winter basketball program.
RECREATION CENTER REPORT.
Jodi Sarles reported on the activities being offered at the
Rec Center i.e. Dance for Fun program, Enhanced Fitness, Grandparent and Me Pumpkin
Painting, Tot Time Fun, Rec Center Sports and the Artisan Fair which was held in November.
Commissioner Scharfenberg asked how the numbers for the Rec Center Sports compared with
the previous year when the YMCA was running the program.
SENIOR CENTER REPORT.
Susan Bill reported on the fall programs that were well
attended and received positive feedback, with the focus for 2010 being health and education.
PARK AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE REPORT.
Dale Gregory presented an update on park
and trail maintenance projects. Commissioner Stolar asked about the status of Fields 2 and 3 at
Lake Ann Park. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about the status of repairing the batting
cages at Lake Ann Park.
ADMINISTRATIVE PRESENTATIONS:
Todd Hoffman invited the commission to attend
the open house at the new public works facility in January and reviewed the time lines for

various trail projects scheduled for 2011 through 2013. Chairman Daniel asked for clarification
on how scheduling the high school athletic facilities will be handled.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Scharfenberg moved, Kelly seconded to approve the
verbatim and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated
November 24, 2009 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously
with a vote of 6 to 0.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS.
Commissioner Ryan updated the
commission on the progress of planning for town baseball.
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
None.
Scharfenberg moved, Stolar seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission
meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
