2009 Tree Lighting Evaluation
This year's Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Saturday, December 5
from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Mayor Furlong and friends officially "flipped the switch"
illuminating City Center Park at 5:20 p.m. We had a very good turnout for this
event with approximately 200 people in attendance. I believe this is a wonderful
holiday celebration and that it should be continued in the future.
Refreshments
Nancy J. Lipinski from Lipinski Accounting & Tax Services, LLC was
responsible for obtaining donations of food and drink from the business
community. Nancy has been assisting with this event for over ten years. The
contributing organizations were: Byerly's, Cub Foods, Caribou Coffee,
Community Bank of Chanhassen, The Mustard Seed Landscaping and Garden
Center, and the Chanhassen Business Council. The City purchased candy canes
for the children. All refreshments were served in City Center Park.
Bonfire
The Park Maintenance staff set up a wonderful, warm bonfire area for all to enjoy.
The bonfire was definitely a nice component to this outdoor winter event.
Santa Claus
The Mustard Seed Landscaping and Garden Center arranged for a visit by Santa
and one of his elves. They did a nice job with the young children, arriving by fire
truck with flashing lights and sirens! Santa entertained the crowd, passed out
candy canes, and posed for pictures. They also provided a live reindeer, which
was a huge hit. Mark Halla of The Mustard Seed Landscaping and Garden Center
is already looking forward to helping out again next year.
Carolers
Living Christ Lutheran Church of Chanhassen provided a group of carolers at the
event. They were very excited to be a part of this celebration and are already
looking forward to helping out again next year.

Gingerbread House Displav
A new addition to this year's event was the First Annual Gingerbread Display
Contest. Five entries were received and on display in the Senior Center. The
winners were announced just before Mayor Furlong "flipped the switch." Two
winners were declared, Most Creative and Most Difficult. This was a nice
addition to the celebration and many people enjoyed the displays. I would
recommend continuing this component in the future.
