Projects are split into two funding categories - capital replacement funds and park dedication funds. This year's project list is relatively limited in comparison to recent years. The reason for this is two-fold: a number of large projects have recently being completed or are pending; and the diminishing revenue stream coming into the park dedication fund. 2010 CAPITAL REPLACEMENT FUND PROJECTS Recreation Center Fitness Equipment - $10,000 One new treadmill, one new elliptical Cross Trainer, and an indoor rowing machine has been purchased and installed. These pieces of equipment replaced an original treadmill and an original stair climber at the Rec Center. This new equipment is user friendly, has ease of programming, and increases the diversity of exercise options in the Fitness Center. This is the third installment of the five- year replacement schedule of fitness equipment at the Rec Center. PARK DEDICATION FUND PROJECTS Picnic TableslBenches - $10,000 Annually, staff identifies picnic tables and or park benches that need to be refurbished or replaced. In addition, the benches sold as a part of the "Memorial Bench Program" are purchased from this fund. Trees - $25,000 This spring and fall staff will identify a planting list and location map for new trees. This item has recently been increased from $10,000 to $25,000 to allow for an increase in tree planting to mitigate the eventual loss of our ash tree inventory, which is extensive. In the event that commissioners notice locations where an existing tree is diseased or dying, or where a new tree would prove beneficial, please let us know. Chanhassen is a Community for Life - Providing for Today and Planning for Tomorrow 2009 Park & Trail Capital Improvement Program January 27, 2009 Page 2 Highway 41 Pedestrian Underpass/Trail Grant Match - $400,000 (Total Project $1,800,000) Construction of a pedestrian underpass leading to Minnewashta Regional Park and approximately two miles of asphalt pedestrian trails. One trail will parallel Highway 41 running from Longacres Drive to Chaska Road. The second trail will start at the western entrance/exit of the underpass and lead to the beach within the regional park. Planning and engineering for this project is slated for 2010 with construction scheduled for 2011. Highway 41 Pedestrian Stairway- $100,000 Funding for the construction of a pedestrian stairway leading from the eastern entrance/exit of the underpass to Highover Drive. PROJECTS HELD OVER FROM 2009 Lake Ann Park Stairway Project - $90,000 This stairway will lead from the top of the hill north of the new picnic shelter to the beach. We have retained Hoisington Koegler Group to complete the design work and construction management for the stairway. I will be happy to answer any questions that commissioners have concerning the 2010 Park and Trail CIP. g:\park\th\cip\201O commission overview. doc City of Chanhassen, MN Capital Improvement Program 2010 thru 2014 PROJECTS BY FUNDING SOURCE Source Pro.ject# Priority 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 Total ICapital Replacement Fund I Tennis Courts PK& T-072 n/a 125,000 75,000 200,000 Recreation Center Fitness Equipment PK& T-079 nla 10,000 10,000 10,000 30,000 Skate Park Ramp Replacement PK& T-093 nla 50,000 50,000 Capital Replacement Fund Total 10,000 10,000 135,000 125,000 280,000 IOther Agency Contribution I TH5 Pedestrian Underpass at Minnewashta PK&T-l08 n/a 920,000 920,000 Other Agency Contribution Total 920,000 920,000 IPark Dedication Fund I Hwy 101 North/Pleasant View Rd Trail Connections PK& T-029 n/a 400,000 400,000 Picnic T ableslPark Benches PK& T-042 nla 10,000 10,000 10,000 10,000 10,000 50,000 Trees PK& T-043 nla 25,000 25,000 25,000 25,000 25,000 125,000 Hwy 41 Pedestrian UnderpasslTrail Grant Match PK& T-069 nla 400,000 400,000 Tennis Courts PK& T-072 nla 125,000 125,000 Rice Marsh Lake Trail PK&T-074 nla 375,000 375,000 Liberty at Creekside Trail PK& T-075 nla 275,000 275,000 Bluff Creek Drive Gap Trail PK& T-083 nla 390,000 390,000 Pedestrian Trail to Arboretum PK& T-098 nla 500,000 500,000 Chanhassen Native Preserve Trail, Final Phase PK& T-099 n/a 90,000 90,000 Manchester Park, Phase 1 Development PK&T-l02 n/a 100,000 100,000 Highway 41 Pedestrian Stairway PK&T-l04 n/a 100,000 100,000 Roundhouse Park Playground Phase II PK&T-l05 nla 25,000 25,000 Sugarbush Park Playground Phase II PK&T-l06 nla 25,000 25,000 City Center Park Band ShelVPoleslFabric PK&T-l07 n/a 45,000 45,000 TH5 Pedestrian Underpass at Minnewashta PK&T-l08 n/a 80,000 80,000 Park Dedication Fund Total 535,000 1,050,000 500,000 310,000 710,000 3,105,000 GRAND TOTAL 545,000 1,980,000 635,000 310,000 835,000 4,305,000 Capital Improvement Program 2010 thru 2014 Department Park & Trail Improvements City of Chanhassen, MN Contact Todd Hoffman PK&T -042 Type Improvement Project # Useful Life 30 Years Project Name Picnic TableslPark Benches Category Park Account #1 410-000-4705 Account #3 Priority n/a Account #2 Account #4 Description I Total Project Cost: $66,000 Purchase of picnic tables and park benches. The City originally supported the application by pledging a $125,000 matching contribution. However, project engineering and increased project costs have resulted in the City share of the budget to be re-estimated at $400,000. Justification I A pedestrian underpass to Minnewashta Regional Park is a highly sought after improvement. The project also completes a one mile section of trail adjacent to State Highway 41 identified in the City's Comprehensive Plan.
