Park & Trail Report
Skatin!! Rinks
This year's skating season has come to an end. We were open for 67 days and
closed for 5 days - December 18th - February 28th (see attached report).
New Public Works Buildin!!
The move into the new Public Works building started the middle of January. A
lot of time has been spent moving equipment, office files, and building work
benches. Now that the skating rinks are closed, there will be more time to
concentrate on completing the moving process from the old building to the new
building.
Lake Susan
The oxygen levels are monitored weekly on Lake Susan. Early snow storms
covered the lakes earlier than previous years causing the oxygen levels to fall. On
February 16th the oxygen levels were low enough to start the aeration system.
The oxygen levels continue to drop slightly.
Dutch Elm Disease
As soon as more snow melts, we will start to remove the dead Dutch Elm trees in
the parks. With decreased snow, it will make it easier and safer to get around to
some of the dead trees. There are approximately 45 trees to remove.
Sentence to Serve (STS)
The old Public Works building is being cleaned and the STS participants were
used to repair holes in the walls, replace ceiling tiles, and paint the walls in all
areas.
Wood Duck Houses
All 41 wood duck houses have been cleaned and repaired or replaced where
necessary. The percentage was down 10% this year to 40% (see report).
