REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
MARCH 23, 2010
Chairman Daniel called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Jeff Daniel, Steve Scharfenberg, Tom Kelly, Thor Smith, and Glenn
Stolar
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Elise Ryan and Scott Wendt
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent; John Stutzman, Recreation Supervisor; Jodi Sarles, Rec Center Manager; Sue
Bill, Senior Center Coordinator; and Dale Gregory, Park Superintendent.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
The agenda was approved with the addition of an update on the
Chanhassen Red Birds under Administrative Presentations.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
None.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Smith moved, Scharfenberg seconded to approve the
verbatim and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated
February 23, 2010 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously
with a vote of 5 to 0.
2010 DADDY DAUGHTER DATE NIGHT EVALUATION.
John Stutzman presented the
evaluation on the Daddy Daughter Date Night noting staff continues to look at ways of
improving the food options for both the parents and the daughters and along with ideas to keep
the event fresh.
2009/10 ICE SKATING RINK EVALUATION.
John Stutzman reported on a very successful
season with almost 10,000 people recorded using the rinks with very few closure dates.
Chairman Daniel asked when the rinks closed. Commissioner Smith asked what’s involved with
maintenance of the skating rinks. Commissioner Stolar asked about the extent of the work
involved with the rink at Rice Marsh Park and Commissioner Kelly asked if staff would
recommend having a rink there next year.
2010 CHAN JAM.
John Stutzman updated the commission on ChanJam that will be held

Friday, April 16 at the Chanhassen Rec Center.
2010 EASTER EGG CANDY HUNT PREVIEW.
John Stutzman updated the commission on
the activities involved with the Easter Egg Candy Hunt.
Park and Rec Commission Summary - March 23, 2010
RECEATION CENTER REPORT.
Jodi Sarles provided updates on the new fitness
equipment purchased in January, programming and activities planned for the Rec Center in the
future i.e. indoor garage sale, Southwest Metro Chamber Expo, and art exhibits.
SENIOR CENTER REPORT.
Sue Bill provided updates on programs and activities
happening at the Senior Center along with technology upgrades. Commissioner Stolar asked if
City Hall has wireless or Wi-Fi capabilities.
PARK AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE REPORT.
Dale Gregory reported on the ice skating
rink season, the Lake Susan aerator, diseased tree control, Sentence to Serve program, wood
duck houses and trails.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT.
Todd Hoffman reported that the City Manager has asked for
commissions to review their By-laws in April and that the City Council has requested that the
Park and Recreation Commission submit their 2010 goals. He reviewed the Arbor Day tree

planting festivities scheduled for May 8 the 2010 CIP program. Jerry Ruegemer provided an
update on the Chanhassen Red Birds baseball team. Commissioner Stolar asked for clarification
of the Twins Community Fund information.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS.
None.
COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS.
None.
Scharfenberg moved, Kelly seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission
meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
