REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
MAY 25, 2010
Chairman Daniel called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Jeff Daniel, Scott Wendt, Tom Kelly, and Elise Ryan. Glenn Stolar,
Steve Scharfenberg and Cole Kelly arrived later in the meeting.
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; and Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Todd Hoffman invited commission members to attend the

Memorial Day ceremony at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 31 at the Veterans Monument.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Tom Kelly moved, Wendt seconded to approve the verbatim
and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission dated April 27, 2010 as
presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
Todd Hoffman provided a preview of a plan prepared by Andrew Hagstrom for a disc golf
course at Bandimere Park. Commissioner Ryan suggested the commission tour Bandimere Park
to look at the proposed location for the disc golf course. The commission decided to tour
Bandimere Park and Herman Field Park prior to the Park and Recreation Commission meeting in
June.
HERMAN FIELD PARK, IDENTIFY TOPICS OF DISCUSSION FOR FUTURE
NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING.
Todd Hoffman provided background information on how the City came to own Herman Field
Park and current park amenities. Commissioner Ryan asked about the advantages or
disadvantages of donating the site to Carver County. Commissioner Stolar suggested using the
park for soccer or lacrosse practices and/or games. Todd Hoffman suggested the commission
meet with the neighbors to get their input.
Tom Kelly moved, Wendt seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission hold an
informal meeting with the residents surrounding Herman Field Park during their July
meeting for the purpose of discussing potentially uses for this open space. All voted in
favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. (Cole Kelly was not
present at this point in the meeting.).
Park and Recreation Commission Summary - May 25, 2010
RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS:
LAKE ANN PARK SUMMER SCHEDULE.
Jerry Ruegemer provided an update on the upcoming summer schedule and programs. Todd
Hoffman provided an update on the sewer line project for the concession stand at the Lake Ann
Park ballfields. Chairman Daniel asked who and when the concessions would be open.
Commissioner Ryan suggested promoting Lake Ann for people training for triathlons as a way to
get more people using the concession stand. Todd Hoffman explained that would be a change in
policy from the City’s current practice of not promoting open lake swimming in Lake Ann.
2010 SUMMER PROGRAMS REPORT.
Jerry Ruegemer reviewed the 2010 summer programs being offered through the City.
Commissioner Stolar suggested adding a disc golf camp next summer.
SELF-SUPPORTING PROGRAMS: 2010 ADULT SOFTBALL UPDATE.
Jerry Ruegemer reported on the status of adult softball leagues in the city.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS.
Commissioner Ryan provided an update on the Chanhassen Red Birds home opener.
Commissioner Stolar suggested working with the East Tonka, South Tonka and CAA baseball
organizations as well as Sue Bill through the Senior Center in recruiting volunteers to work at the
games. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked if recycling bins would be available for cans and
other recyclable items.
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
Todd Hoffman reviewed items on upcoming Park and Recreation Commission meetings for the
members who were not present at the beginning of the meeting. The commission decided to

meet at Bandimere Park at 6:00 p.m. on June 22 to review the proposed disc golf course and
Herman Field Park on July 27th prior to meeting with the neighborhood.
Scharfenberg moved, Tom Kelly seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and
the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. The Park and Recreation
Commission meeting was adjourned.
