Chapter 20, Zoning — Political Campaign Signs
PROPOSED MOTION:
"The Chanhassen Planning Commission recommends that City Council adopt
the attached ordinance amending Chapter 20 of the Chanhassen City Code."
BACKGROUND
Staff has reviewed the City Code relative to state statute. The proposed
amendment pertains to political campaign signs.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed ordinance amendments.
ANALYSIS
Issue:
The date of state primaries was changed to the second Tuesday in August and the
sign provision in state law was amended accordingly. The new law went into
effect immediately when the Governor signed it on March 3, 2010. This is the
new requirement:

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Planning Commission recommend approval of the attached ordinance
amending Chapter 20 of the Chanhassen City Code pertaining to political campaign signs.

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA ORDAINS:
Section 1. 20 -1255 (1) e. is hereby amended to read as follows:
Permitted from August 1,46 days before the state primary in a state general election year until
ten days following the state general election and 13 weeks prior to any special election until ten
days following the special election.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and publication.
