Building Inspections This was the sixth year for the City of Chanhassen's summer concert series.
Phone: 9522271180 The program featured eight different bands from a variety of genres, including

folk rock, country, concert band, jazz band, and children's music. Each
Engineering concert consisted of an hour -long performance and was free of charge to the
Phone 952.227 1160 public. Similar to last year, a majority of the program implementation was the
Fax: 952,227 1170 responsibility of the department's intern, Peter Woitas. This provided a good
hands -on learning experience that created a sense of program ownership for
Finance him. Peter did a nice job with all the responsibilities of this program.

Overall the program was again successful, with attendance averaging
Park & Recreation approximately 175 people per show. Each show featured a different type of
Phone 952.227 1120 music and was well -liked by those in attendance. Two of the more popular
Fax: 952.2271110 bands that I would recommend bringing back in the future are The Valley Jazz
Sextet and The Splatter Sisters.

Phone 952.227 1400 There were a few modifications to this year' series, both of which were well
Fax: 952 2271404 received. First, we moved the daytime family shows to an 11:30 a.m. start
time. This was intended to accommodate families and groups with younger
Planning & children and I recommend continuing this in the future. Additionally, we
Natural Resources produced the concert schedule on a magnet this summer. While it was
Phone: 9522271130 distributed on a limited basis, it was a great idea that I would recommend
Fax. 952.2271110 continuing in the future.
Public Works
1591 Park Road Once again, KleinBank of Chanhassen was the title sponsor of the event in
Phone: 952.227 1300 partnership with the city. Their donation of $2,000 is greatly appreciated and
Fax: 952.227 1310 helps keep the expenses down for this program. This year, K1emBank offered
free water and balloons to participants and face painting during the children's
Senior Center entertainment. Staff recommends that Kleinbank be contacted regarding
Phone: 9522271125 continuing this partnership in the future and look to discuss the possibility of

getting additional support to produce the magnet schedule on a larger scale.

Additionally, the city sold ice cream sandwiches, popcorn, and pop at each
show. Providing concert goers with an option for snacks and beverages
continues to be a nice addition to the concert series.
Other recommendations for the Summer Concert Series include:
• Have staff maintain their continued marketing strategies to ensure
effective notification of this free program.
• Continue to work with KleinBank on a partnership in future years.
• Continue to make the implementation of the concerts one of the
primary responsibilities of the summer recreation intern.
• Offer two children's music shows dunng the lunch hour.
• Contact local daycares inviting them to the free lunchtime shows.
• Continue to send the bands a map of the park. This allows them to see
the layout of the park as well as instruct them not to dnve in the park.
Overall this is a valuable program that the City of Chanhassen offers and, as
commissioners can see by the numbers, is a well - utilized program. It is my
recommendation that we continue this program in the future.
