4 of July Planning

July 3 Business Expo:
The Power Point Presentation created by Rose was reviewed, and suggestions were made. Bob
suggested additional water conservation tips including: Reducing cycle times on irrigation
systems, taking shorter showers, and restricting Mid-day watering. Denny suggested highlighting
each tip for more impact. Beverly suggested a visual for the 300 gallon statistic and adding a
page at the end for links on resources and more information. Amy suggested using a line graph
for water usage over time, and to include The Chanhassen Environmental Commission on each

slide. Commissioner attendance for both July 3 and 4 was discussed. Table supplies were
discussed and the following list agreed upon: Toilet test kits to be handed out, ‘Responsible
Water Management’ brochures to be provided by City Staff to be handed out, WaterWise
Program sign-up sheet, laptop or screen and projector for presentation, Chanhassen
Environmental Commission banner, possible planter provided by Lotus filled with xeriscape
and/or native plants, possible seedlings left over from Arbor Day, possible window clings,
possible now-mow grass provided by Beverly.

July 4 Parade:
Poster ideas were discussed. Bob suggested using the Water Wise Logo, one for each side of the
truck. It was suggested that one poster be printed with theme: Celebrate America’s Resources –
Be Water Wise!’ Bob suggested that there also be a visual of people using water resources.
Question was raised on whether the water drop costume would be available. Creating a sandwich
board with posters on both sides was also suggested and discussed. Inquiry was made of City
being able to provide foam/poster board for sandwich board. Inquire made of staff availability
for photo taking during parade. Denny inquired to size of posters to be made. Jill will have
coupons to hand out. Request was made that Jill follow up on coupons from the eco-friendly dry
cleaner.
Water Conservation:
Amy inquired as to the City’s 10-year Water Plan document, and where

it may be viewed. The June 14 Work Session will include discussion on the City’s water-use
policy. Commission invited to attend and offer comments on Water Wise Program, etc.
General Discussion:
It was agreed that the Commission would attend the Minnehaha Creek
Watershed District shoreline tour in place of the July meeting. Pollution Prevention Week was
discussed. Amy suggested using information she had gathered on reducing household chemicals.
Bob suggested that topics be related to the Commission’s four focus topics. Discussion on water
quality/environmental grants available to residents. Amy volunteered to compile list. Request
was made for t-shirts for new commission members.
The next meeting will be Wed., September 8 at 6:00 pm.
