EC SUM 2011 01 12 Chanhassen Environmental Commission (EC) Regular Meeting January 12, 2011 Members Present: Dennis Hansen, J.R. Relick, Beverly Foster, Amy Wenner, David Christianson, Robert Kircher Members Absent : Rose Kircher Staff Present: Jill Sinclair, Environmental Resource Specialist Minutes: December minutes were approved. Comments were made regarding the recycling coupon insert which will be used for the spring newsletter and about posting EC news on the city’s Facebook page. EC web page: The commission talked about where to go after not being able to include all of the updates to their commission page. A suggestion was made to put links on the issues called out on the commission page directing users to the corresponding section in the Natural Resource section. It was also suggested that a link titled “What Can I Do?” be added to the EC page and incorporate Amy’s compilation of resources. The commission would like to know how many hits the EC page has received. 2011 Work Plan: The commission agreed that the primary focus for the 2011 work plan will be Stormwater Management. They will pursue possible partnerships with the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District (RPBCWD) such as lawn aeration and low impact development (LID). Amy volunteered to gather and consolidate a list of stormwater tips. All of the commissions volunteered to contribute ideas. The commission decided to go forward with the Arbor Day poster contest. The theme will be tree diversity. Jill will send out letters to area schools tomorrow. The commission will review the posters at the March meeting. The commission also suggested promoted the Arbor Day tree planting on Facebook. Arbor Day planning: The commission discussed the agenda and activities for the day. The group talked about serving refreshments before the work or having the food out near the planting holes since it seemed like not everyone came back to the shelter afterwards last year. There could be games for the kids while waiting to get started. The parks department may have some carnival games that could be borrowed for the morning, such as bean bag toss. The commission would also like to encourage businesses to get involved this year. A sponsorship letter will be drafted. General Discussion: Beverly’s and JR’s terms are up at the end of March. Jill will send them a reminder. The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 9 at 6:00pm. Meeting adjourned at approximately 7:45 PM. Minutes prepared by Jill Sinclair
