Staff has assembled a few data points of information regarding the residents and household characteristics to facilitate discussion. Once the census data is available, staff will bring it back for additional review and discussion. Planning & Census data, which is collected every ten years, attempts to count every person in Engineering the country and provides a snapshot of the U.S. population. This growth represents almost a five -fold increase in our F ax: population in forty years. The percentage of ownership has increase from 68 percent to 85 percent, while the proportion of rental housing has decreased from 25 percent to 11 percent. While the majority of households occupied are by persons 35 — 54, representing 56.2 percent of the households, the senior population ages 54 — 75+ are becoming a significant proportion of the households at 31.5 percent. IMPLICATIONS While there will continue to be a growth in the number of housing units, the change in the demographic makeup of the community may lead to other changes: • Reduce follow -up housing buyers • Change in housing preferences • Need for alternate housing styles • Need for housing maintenance assistance or programs • Change in school population and utilization • Increase in senior programs • Healthcare • Economic changes — extended employment (due to the great recession) • Labor skills /historic knowledge loss as Baby Boomers retire • Transit ATTACHMENTS 1.
