SENIOR COMMISSION MINUTES
REGULAR MEETING
MAY 15, 2009
Chairman Robinson called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT
: Curt Robinson, Fred Prinz, Virginia Prior, Carol
Buesgens, and Charlie Robbins.
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Pat McGough, Barbara Nevin.
STAFF PRESENT
: Sharmeen Al-Jaff.
VISITORS:
Katy Boone, Carver County Public Health Planner.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
Commissioner Buesgens moved,
Commissioner Prior seconded the motion to approve the agenda with the
addition of item 6.b. Volunteering on Memorial Day for the Veterans
.
Monument Dedication Ceremony. All voted in favor and the motion carried
APPROVAL OF MINUTES DATED APRIL 17, 2009:
Commissioner
Robbins moved to approve the minutes. Commissioner Nevin seconded the
motion. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
TRANSIT:
Chairman Robinson stated that Allan Herman has not scheduled
the volunteer drivers’ training/meeting. Katy Boone stated that SouthWest
Transit gave a presentation at the Vision 2012. They are contemplating
reintroducing targeted routes and Dial-A-Ride. They are also looking at
adding Park and Ride lots in Chanhassen and Chaska. They stated that their
ridership has declined.
FOCUS GROUP:
Katy Boone explained that there will be three age
groups. Each group will consist of 7 to 10 people. The July Senior
Commission meeting will cover the requirements for the Focus Group. The
Senior Commission members may not serve as part of the focus group due to
their intimate knowledge of issues facing the aging population. Work on the
study may begin in the Fall of 2009.
SENIOR PARKING SIGNS:
No update.
EDUCATION ON MATTERS CONCERNING SENIORS:
No update.
VOLUNTEERS FOR MEMORIAL DAY:
Commissioner Nevin sent an e-mail requesting volunteers on Memorial Day
during the Veterans Monument Dedication Ceremony. Commissioners
Robinson, Buesgens, and Prior volunteered to serve.
SENIOR COMMISSION COMMENTS:
Commissioner Robbins informed
the Senior Commission that Klein Bank will sponsor the entire entire concert
in the park series for this summer.
ADJOURNMENT:
Commissioner Robbins moved to adjourn the meeting,
Commissioner Buesgens seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the
motion carried.
