Last year was our second longest year and this year was our shortest year. The weather was warm and we were unable to start flooding until December 26. With the late start we decided to cancel the seven family rinks in neighborhood parks, which gave us extra time to work on four main skating parks and have those open by December 29, 2001. I have included a few reports related to the skating rinks this year. · Ice rink user totals for the four rink areas where warming houses are present- prepared by Corey Hoen. * Skating rink open and closing dates. · Skating rink cost of 2000-2001 season and skating rink cost for 2001-2002 season. 'Wood duck houses have all been checked and cleaned. Our percentage of use is up a little from last year's 46% to 53% usage this year. This program was started in 1994 and has proven to be a real asset to the duck population. (Report attached) Once again, we have had the opportunity to have the STS (Sentence to Serve) people do some work for us. On an average we had seven people for four days at about five hours a day totaling 140 man-hours. In that time they put together 25 new picnic tables, rebuilt 34 tables with recycled planks and painted six sets of soccer goals. With the late freeze up of the lakes and the lack of snow this winter, Lake Susan was able to maintain high enough levels of oxygen so that we did not have to put the aerator in this year.
