PRC SUM 2011 10 25 CHANHASSEN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY MINUTES OCTOBER 25, 2011 Chairman Daniel called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Jeff Daniel, Steve Scharfenberg, Tom Kelly, Cole Kelly, Elise Ryan, Peter Aldritt, and Brent Caron STAFF PRESENT: Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent PUBLIC PRESENT: Todd Neils 990 Saddlebrook Curve APPROVAL OF AGENDA:Carron moved, Tom Kelly seconded to approve the agenda as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: Tom Kelly announced that it was Brent Carron’s birthday. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Scharfenberg moved, Carron seconded to approve the verbatim and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated September 27, 2011 with changes proposed by Cole Kelly on pages 10, 11 and 13. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. CONSIDER ACCEPTING DONATION OF DOUBLE BATTING CAGE FOR LAKE SUSAN PARK, CHANHASSEN ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. Jerry Ruegemer presented the staff report on this item. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked for clarification of the use of electricity for the pitching machines, lighting and the layout of the batting cages. Commissioner Tom Kelly asked about the City’s cost for excavating, aggregate and who’s responsible for repairs. Todd Neils discussed moving the fencing around for the dugouts. Cole Kelly moved, Carron seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission recommends that the City Council accept the donation of two 12’ x 12’ x 70’ mesh batting cages/nets for installation and public use at Lake Susan Park and moving the dugout fences as proposed by the Chanhassen Athletic Association. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS: 2011 RESERVATION PICNIC SITE EVALUATION. Jerry Ruegemer provided highlights of the 2011 picnic site evaluations. Cole Kelly asked about maintenance projects and deposit returns. Tom Kelly asked why there were no picnics at Lake Susan Park on Sunday’s. CHANJAM ’11 PREVIEW REPORT. Jerry Ruegemer discussed the changes made to this event, moving it from April to November and changing the venue from the Chanhassen Rec Center to the auditorium at the Chanhassen High School. Steve Scharfenberg asked about food being available. Park and Recreation Commission Summary – October 25, 2011 COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS. None. COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS. None. ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET. None. OLD BUSINESS. Cole Kelly suggested staff advertise in the spring on the City’s website for paddleboat and kayak rentals. Carron moved, Scharfenberg seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0.
