REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
JANUARY 24, 2012
Chairman Daniel called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Jeff Daniel, Steve Scharfenberg, Tom Kelly, Peter Aldritt, Brent Caron, and
Cole Kelly
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Elise Ryan
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; and Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:Scharfenberg moved, Carron seconded to approve the agenda as
presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Todd Hoffman announced that applications are being sought for
commission members for all commissions.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Aldritt moved, Cole Kelly seconded to approve the verbatim and
summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated December 13, 2011 as
presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0.
2012 PARK AND TRAIL ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAM (CIP) OVERVIEW.
Todd Hoffman provided an overview of the capital improvement projects planned for 2012.
Commissioner Cole Kelly asked about using the cable TV money for park and rec projects and getting a
weight bench in the fitness center. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about the Bandimere Park
expansion, disc golf construction, and replacement of skate park equipment. Commissioner Tom Kelly
asked about the timeline for tennis court maintenance and the Rice Marsh Lake trail construction.
Chairman Daniel asked about maintenance agreements with Shorewood regarding Cathcart Park.
RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS: 2012 FEBRUARY FESTIVAL.
Jerry Ruegemer presented
an update on changes and activities planned for the upcoming February Festival.
2012 COMMISSION COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS: DISC GOLF COURSE, SKATE PARK
RENEWAL, PIONEER PASS PARK AND RILEY RIDGE PARK NEIGHBORHOOD
PLAYGROUNDS.
Todd Hoffman reviewed the purpose and time committments involved with the different committees.
Commission members volunteer for the various committees.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS.

Park and Recreation Commission Summary – January 24, 2012
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
Todd Hoffman discussed the successful grant application for the
Minnewashta Parkway box culvert to the Arboretum and asked the commission if they would like to
nominate anybody for the Distinguished Service Award.
Commissioner Scharfenberg moved, Chair Daniel second to nominate Paula Atkins for the
Distinguished Service Award. Council members unanimously agreed.
Scharfenberg moved, Tom Kelly seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting
was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
