07 09 03 MinutesCHANHASSEN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION (EC) REGULAR MEETING July 9, 2003 Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Ron Olsen, Steve Nalefski, Marcus Zbinden, Dotti Shay, Deborah Yungner, Kim Grant MEMBERS ABSENT: Jo Mueller STAFF PRESENT: Lori Haak, Water Resources Coordinator COUNCIL PRESENT: none APPROVAL OF MINUTES: June minutes were approved. JULY 4 PARADE: Marcus, Dotti, and Ron all agree that the parade went well. Marcus said that 950 coupons were given out, 12 have already been received and calls/website hits have gone up since the parade. Steve commented on the professional look of the signs, which were saved for next year. Dotti would like more carts/wagons and twice as much candy for next year's parade. EE AWARDS: Dotti suggested that a tour/presentation of General Mills might be a good idea for businesses interested in applying. Steve would like to see a copy of past winning applications on the back of the blank applications. The award could be publicized on the web page, in local papers, on cable TV, with the application sent to businesses in a holiday envelope. A presentation about the award should be made at the next Rotary meeting. Steve would like to see schools and churches involved as well. BLUE SKY GUIDES: Marcus asked how best to use the $5,000 allotted to the program for this year. Dotti felt there weren't many Chanhassen businesses in the guide and Ron felt that at $9 each, they were asking a lot for a guide. Some businesses are going to add coupons to the book. Marcus reminded those present that funding for the Recycling Center is directly affected by the number of Blue Sky Guides sold. Other ways to use the money could be a program for local 5th graders, tree plantings, plastic bag recycling, a sculpture for the city, subsidizing additional Project H20 demo projects, or increasing the EE Award prizes. Lori said that 300 Blue Sky Guides were distributed and the Commission members agreed that the money would be better spent by cutting back on the Guides. Steve suggested that only getting them on demand would be better. The Committee would like to see between 100 and 150 Blue Sky Guides available on a first come, first served basis. GENERAL DISCUSSION: · Marcus mentioned that he noticed a monitoring well in front of Country Clean. · The commission would like to look into the possibility of having businesses donate tangible items for a project/event like a family night with a public performance, perhaps on Arbor Day. Meeting was adjourned at 8:02 p.m. Prepared and Submitted by Lori Haak and Ken Vimig CXOL^N~JS~C~EC03~07 00-0m~N
