PRC SUM 2012 09 25 CHANHASSEN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY MINUTES SEPTEMBER 25, 2012 Chairman Cole Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Cole Kelly, Steve Scharfenberg, Elise Ryan, Tom Kelly, Brent Carron, Jim Boettcher, and Peter Aldritt STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent; Mitch Johnson, Recreation Supervisor; Sue Bill, Senior Center Coordinator; Dale Gregory, Park Superintendent; and Jodi Sarles, Rec Center Manager APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The agenda was approved with the following additions: Patrick Furlong under Visitor Presentations; Update on Riley Ridge Park and Pioneer Pass Park; and discussion of a bike rack at Bandimere Park. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS. Patrick Furlong, 1405 Knob Hill Lane, a junior at Holy Family and a member of Boy Scout Troop 409 in Excelsior, proposed his Eagle Scout project to plan and lead a landscaping project around the new monument sign at Lake Ann Park. Commissioner Boettcher asked about the completion date. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about prep work to the site. Commissioner Tom Kelly asked about irrigation plans. Commissioner Carron asked about excavation of the site and Boy Scout District approval of his project. Laurie Susla with the Lotus Lake Conservation Alliance asked if commission members had any questions on their 2012 AIS report. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about Lotus Lake Conservation Alliance’s plans for next year. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Carron moved, Aldritt seconded to approve the verbatim and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated August 28, 2012 as amended by Cole Kelly on page 21. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. BANDIMERE PARK BIKE RACK. Due to some incidents happening at the disc golf course at Bandimere Park, Tom Kelly suggested the installation of a bike rack. ESTABLISH 2012/13 ICE SKATING RINK LOCATIONS. Mitch Johnson presented staff’s recommendations to flood 8 ice skating rinks and maintain 4 warming houses. Commissioner Aldritt asked about adding more hours at Roundhouse Park. Commissioner Ryan suggested staff post the City’s policy regarding ice skating rink on the City’s website. UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF RILEY RIDGE PARK AND PIONEER PASS PARK. Todd Hoffman provided updates on the status of Riley Ridge Park located in the Reflections at Lake Riley neighborhood and Pioneer Pass Park. RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS. EVALUATION OF 2012 LAKE ANN PARK CONCESSIONS/BOAT RENTALS. Jerry Ruegemer reviewed the 2012 Lake Ann Park concessions and boat rentals season. Commissioner Boettcher asked about signage locations for watercraft rentals. Commissioner Tom Kelly suggested replacing the problems with the Slush Puppy machine with Berry Blends which are located in Eden Prairie. Commissioner Ryan suggested purchasing 2 paddleboards versus 1 as people usually like to paddleboard with someone else. Chairman Cole Kelly asked if staff had considered purchasing more paddleboats. th 2012 HALLOWEEN PARTY REPORT. Mitch Johnson discussed plans for the 28 Annual th Halloween Party being held on Saturday, October 27 at the Chanhassen Rec Center. SENIOR CENTER REPORT. Sue Bill reviewed the activities at the Senior Center and programs planned for the fall. Chairman Cole Kelly asked about age requirements for senior programming. Commissioner Tom Kelly asked about converting existing tennis courts into pickleball courts. PARK AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE REPORT. Dale Gregory provided highlights from the park and trail maintenance report. Chairman Cole Kelly thanked Dale Gregory and his staff for the great job they do with maintenance on the trail system. RECREATION CENTER REPORT. Jodi Sarles provided updates on activity and facilities at the Recreation Center. COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS. None. ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET. Todd Hoffman reviewed information from the letters in the packet to Mr. Martin Walsh regarding the LRT trail and Mr. Dale Rausch regarding the bluebird report. COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS. Commissioners Boettcher and Carron reported on a tour they attended of the Locust Hills development in Wayzata and Wild Meadows in Medina. 2 Park and Recreation Commission Summary – September 25, 2012 Boettcher moved, Carron seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting was adjourned.
